Begin at either Indian Creek Nature Center (6665 Otis Road SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa) or Prairiewoods Ecospirituality Center (120 East Boyson Rd., Hiawatha, Iowa) At either starting point pick up a brochure listing all sites on the tour. Indoor features at the Nature Center include solar panels, LED lighting, motion sensors, passive solar design, sun tunnel, soy-based closed cell insulation, window quilts, and efficient windows. Outdoor features include a wetland septic system, rain garden, porous paving, bioswale and other runoff prevention features. Prairiewoods Ecospirituality Center features a guided tour of multiple solar systems on various buildings and a 17.5 KW photovoltaic array. The Residence has a Trombe wall for passive solar heating, a solar hot water system, a stand-alone PV system and straw bale cabins. Eco-friendly architecture, solar tubes and a wetland septic system are also featured. Private homes with solar features will be included on the tour.
