Established in 1954, the American Solar Energy Society is the nation’s leading association of solar professionals and advocates. Together with our members we’re building a solar-powered, energy efficient nation. But, we can’t do it without solar supporters like you. Will you JOIN US ?
This 4.2kW Solar PV system is located at 1801 Parkview Blvd. in Brandon, SD at the Cross residence. This system has 20 - Kyocera 210W panels with 2 Xantrex inverters and a 16 battery back-up. This project is wired to have the battery bank power the majority of homes needs. In essence, the home operates almost entirely off of solar panels using the grid only for assistance in the event of higher than expected loads in cloudy conditions or at night. The batteries are recharged or topped-off if needed from the grid during off-peak hours at night.
The goal of this system was not to push power back into the meter or make the meter spin backwards. The owner's focus is to have a system capable of providing for his electrical needs independent of the grid. In the event of a blackout or any type of grid failure, this system will be able to maintain electrical loads for lights and heat as well as the majority of appliances.
Tours of the system will be October 1st starting at 11:00am and going until 2:00pm, then again on Saturday October 2nd, starting at 2:00pm and ending at 4:00pm. Please call 605-338-2085 to make a reservation or to inquire.
There is no charge for the tour, however, we would like to have everyone reserve a space in advance so we know who all will be attending.
