Host Comments: Trying to bring a 1952 house up to date in terms of energy efficiency is not easy. Over the last few years in addition to the solar system, we have replaced 11 windows, added insulation, and remodeled the least airtight room. We are fortunate to have access to well water for irrigation and have always planted native and drought tolerant plants. I have done extensive research on Radiant barrier installation for the attic and am still researching Vertical Axis Wind Turbines. The combination of ERCOT rebate and the federal tax credit, along with a desire to reduce my carbon footprint, all played a role in the decision to go solar. After the recent hail storm pounded the roof with no damage to solar panels we chose to upgrade our roof shingles to a high impact solar reflective variety.
