Solar-powered and "green" homes all over Long Island will be featured as part of the National Solar Tour and are open to the public for free visits on Saturday, October 1st, 2011 from 10 AM to 4 PM as part of the National Solar Tour and Green Buildings Open House on Long Island.
Tour visitors can learn about solar, other forms of renewable energy, energy efficiency and environmentally friendly building features directly from the people in their community, watch electric meters run backwards, and see the actual savings on utility bills.
These local open houses are part of an island-wide tour of a number of sites that use solar energy and other green building features.
Renewable Energy Long Island (reLI) is organizing the tour on Long Island, with the American Solar Energy Society at the national level.
Last year, the tour attracted 150,000 visitors nationwide and has been billed as the largest public renewable energy education event in the world.
The Tour is FREE but visitors must obtain their free Visitor's Pass online at www.renewableenergylongisland.org/tourguests.cfm
