We enjoy the environmental and economic benefits of our solar PV array every day. It produces enough power and SREC credits to cover our entire utility bill (electric and water – we removed the gas) for the entire year. We own a 2014 hybrid Prius whose 12-mile electric capacity covers most local errands. We may have an all-electric car by October. We have renovated our yard to remove invasives and use the permaculture technique for the garden, fruit trees, and berry bushes. We make our own biochar to enhance the soil. We host a small herring run along one property border and a lovely lake along another. We have replaced our standard septic system with an ‘innovative/alternative’ system that uses electric plates to remove most of the phosphorus and nitrogen before the leach field and the groundwater.
