Lent Hollow Powerhouse

This is a 12.5 Kw system composed of 48 250 watt Canadian Solar panels with Enphase micro inverters. The system has been in operation since August of 2015 and has produced over 85 Mw-Hr (85,000 kw-hr) of electricity. This solar system was installed along with a geothermal heat pump retrofitted into an older home to convert the house from natural gas heat to a net zero home. The heat pump conversion also brought air conditioning to the home that was not there before making th home more comfortable during the summer. Now all the winter heating and summer cooling for the home is supplied via net metering and the sunshine falling on the solar array. This site is a prototype for a roof constructed from solar panels. The site was built by Northstone Solar LLC as a shed for the owner to store his tractor and other implements under.. This construction is advantaged because the cost of a normal roof can be applied to purchasing the solar panels. In conventional construction you would have to pay for a complete roof and then pay for a solar installation on top of that roof but with this construction technique you only have to pay for the structure and then the solar panels allowing an overall cost savings equal to the cost of the roof decking and roofing material plus labor for installing the roof. In addition if something should go wrong with a panel or micro inverter it can be replaced/repaired from below without the need to access it from above. Coudersport
