The system includes 30 solar panels and a 7.7 kW SMA grid tied inverter. It is a grid-tied system and we have a net metering agreement with DP&L. There are no batteries.
There are 18 panels attached to the standing seam metal roof on the house using S-5 railless mounts.
Eight more panels make up the roof of a unique solar gazebo which demonstrates the advantages of using solar panels as roofing and using the space under solar panels as a gazebo, shed, carport or garage.
Four more panels are installed on a ground mounted array on a steep hillside, converting a difficult to mow area into an energy producing facility.
We charge our 2015 Nissan Leaf with electricity using a 240 Volt 30 Amp level 2 Siemens charger in the garage. It takes about four hours for a full charge, but we typically recharge when it gets below half (about 50 miles) so it only take about 2 hours.
The system has produced all the electricity we have used in the past 5 years. It produces about 10,000 kWh of electricity per year (about $1200 worth).
