Grainey Home Solar Project

October 2, 2021 - January 15, 2022

Virtual Event Virtual Event

We decided to install a solar system on our home because of concerns about Climate Change and to increase our energy resiliency.  We were without power for 8 days this past February due to damage from ice storms and we did not want that to happen again.

The solar project is 6 KW in size, with a Tesla Battery for backup power.  It started operating late in August of this year.  I chose Sunpower panels because they used to be made in Oregon and I know their quality.  Earthlight Solar and Energy Solutions, located in Silverton Oregon, was the installer.  Earthlight did an excellent job.  The house is an older house in a historic district, which created a number of logistic and other challenges.  Earthlight did a great job of handling these challenges and doing follow up work to make sure the system worked well.

“Our local utility, Portland General Electric, was also great to work with.  PGE installed a new meter for net metering quickly and also enrolled us in a program to provide credit for the battery as a resource for PGE in peak times.
