Greenbelt Green Lakeside Drive Home
October 2 - October 3
Our winter lake-view house has many energy- and water-conserving features throughout the house and outside. Outside we have an electric vehicle Level 2 charger, 2 rain barrels, compost bins, vermicomposters (worm hotels), and edible landscaping. We harvested gallons of blueberries this year, as well as blackberries, raspberries, wineberries, elderberries, and herbs. Inside, Solatubes light up our kitchen and one bathroom and efficient LED lights provide low-cost lighting when the sun isn’t shining. Our appliances are ENERGY STAR. We installed 1.0 gpf low-flush Toto toilets and a Nebia ultra-low-flow shower. Four ductless mini-split Mr. Slim heat pumps heat and cool our house. A GeoSpring heat pump water heater provides efficient hot water. A high efficiency Fral dehumidifier keeps our downstairs comfortable without using much electricity. Window quilts and insulated roman shades keep the heat out in the summer and in during the winter. A Sense whole-house energy management system monitors electricity consumption.
