Habitat for Humanity Mountain Solar Home
October 2, 2021 - January 15, 2022
This PV installation was the Western Solar Society’s most recent install and wrapped up only a couple of weeks ago.
The Habitat for Humanity array consists of 5.76 kilowatts of Solaria 360 watt modules, an SMA Sunny Boy 5-kW inverter and unirac rails donated to Equitable Solar Solutions by Bryce and Katie Carter of Lakewood. The installation costs were affordable such that the Habitat homeowners were able to get a small loan to pay for the permitting, electrician and installers Nunatak Alternative Energy who worked with volunteers to complete the project. The ability to reuse this donated equipment results in significant cost savings and provides important social benefit for Gunnison Habitat for Humanity homeowners. Another reuse solar array is planned for the next Habitat home, currently under construction. In addition, the Colorado Energy Office funded a 3.75 kilowatt reuse solar array and SolarEdge inverter for a home on the north side of town that had previously qualified for the state’s weatherization assistance program.
