Independent School District 197
October 2 - October 3
Our District passed a Clean Energy Resolution for 100% clean energy by 2021. On-site, we installed solar rooftop arrays on five of our eight schools with zero upfront costs, thanks to partnerships with our solar vendors. These arrays generate about 15% of each school’s energy needs, offset nearly 360,000 pounds of CO2 emissions annually, and save the school district an estimated $750,000 in electricity costs over the next 25 years. Off-site, we have solar garden subscriptions to provide our District with 6 million Kwh of annual consumption. Once we have completed this project, we expect to offset nearly 2,880,000 pounds of CO2 emissions annually and save the school district an estimated $6,000,000 in electricity costs over the next 25 years. These solar projects are inline with our mission to promote energy savings using low cost or no cost strategies.
