Sisters Solar Site

The Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross is a Catholic religious order in Green Bay, WI. In 2006 the Sisters built a new Convent that included many sustainable elements in the building and on the property. In 2014 the Sisters installed a 112-kilowatt photovoltaic system to decrease by 30% their electrical use from their local power company and to reduce their carbon footprint. In 2019 the Sisters added a 98-kilowatt photovoltaic system with a goal of increased the solar production to 50% of their electrical usage Sisters have a mission of education so they also want to educate others about solar and renewable energy. The Sisters provide guided tours upon request. In addition, the solar site is open to visitors for self-guided tours Monday through Friday. Brochures are available on site. A grass path leads visitors past the two solar arrays in a large wildflower and prairie setting behind the convent. Along the path seven plaques with information about the solar project and solar energy. In addition, the solar site is an area of natural beauty and provides a quiet reflective area.
