Sussex Solar Gardens is the FIRST community solar project in New Jersey. Located in the only Rural Electric Cooperative territory in New Jersey, this ground mounted solar array began solar production in October 2019.
Seventeen local families grouped their resources to purchase the 156 solar panels in this 50 KW system and the local utility agreed to provide monthly bill credits to each based on their percentage ownership in the solar system. Owner-investors also receive tax credits and SRECs (solar renewable energy credits) so they can pay off their investment in about 8 years.
