UAB Solar House and Sustainable Community

October 7 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm - October 7 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

The UAB Solar House and Sustainability Community is a demonstration of sustainability in all aspects. This neighborhood is a project of UAB Sustainability and represents the first phase of Dragonfly Park. The Solar House, built for the 2017 Solar Decathlon, is powered by the sun and is “islanded,” which means it is not tied to the city’s electrical grid. There are many other features of the community, including green building design, rainwater collection technology, pollinator habitats, and zero-waste practices, like composting and recycling.
