Washington Ethical Society
October 2 - October 3
The Washington Ethical Society is a humanistic religious institution. Our facility consists of connected buildings. The 108 panels are located on the various roofs. 4 Sunny Boy inverters convert the DC power to AC which is then used to power WES; When the system produces more power than WES needs, the excess energy is fed back into the PEPCO power grid; when we need more power than the system produces we get that power from the grid. The system is rated at about 30 kW. On average the system provides about half of WES’s electrical energy needs.
The system was purchased by Ethical Community Solar (ECS), an LLC formed by committed WES members to reduce greenhouse gases and pollution associated with fossil fuel electrical generation. Washington DC based Solar Solution installed the system in 2012 and maintains it as needed. In 2020, ECS donated the entire system to the Washington Ethical Society.
WES also performed numerous energy-efficiency upgrades including converting all lighting to LED.
We have an insect garden to save Monarch butterflies and other beneficial insects.
With DC-based Casey trees, we added 3 trees to our immediate environment.
WES is working toward sustainability and improving the natural environment
