The American Solar Energy Society‘s 28th Annual National Solar Tour aims to promote renewable energy awareness and increase the adoption of sustainable living practices. Solar panels are mounted on the south-facing part of the roof, plus eight panels that make up the roof of a gazebo in the back yard and four panels on a ground mount. It is a grid-tied system using an SMA Sunny Boy 7.6 kW inverter and was a DIY installation The panels on the gazebo and the ground mount are installed to be rain-tight, so they serve as roofing to protect the wood-frame structures.
We have produced all the electricity we have used since February of 2017, including electricity used by our Nissan Leaf, acquired later in 2017.
