I am very interested in preserving the planet and act accordingly. I first became interested in solar when I went on a solar tour in 2010. It wasn't until 2017 that we bought a house and could actually go solar.
Since then we've done a HES, which involved air sealing around doors and windows and replacing almost all light-bulbs with LED. The blower door test resulted in 1:1 ACH50.
In 2018, we added insulation in the attic and basement/garage walls & ceiling.
We bought an electric car and installed an EV charger in the garage.
In 2020, we continued our path to "electrify everything." after attending several workshops and webinars. We replaced the gas furnace/AC combo with a cold climate heat pump, and by the end of the year we will replace the gas hot water heater with a heat pump water heater to get completely off fossil fuels.
We purchased a roof solar installation with a loan from the CT Green Bank and help from 30% federal tax credit. Solar covers everything except the electric car and now of course the heat pump. We maxed out our solar roof potential since the area around the house has quite a lot of tall trees. In the future, we hope to add more insulation to the outside of the walls, since the inside is already filled to the max.
last but not least, we created a small veggie garden, a rain barrel, composter and we use an outside foldable clothes dryer.
