We’ve added rooftop solar and energy efficiency features to our Plymouth, MA home over the years since we bought it in 2013. We are planning on purchasing a heat pump water heater and a heat pump clothes dryer in the next 12 months.

2014 –ROOFTOP SOLAR
– 5.89 kW rooftop solar array (18 panels)
– Gross price: $31,305
– Breakeven: 5.5 years
– Incentives and credits: Federal and State tax credits ($10,137); MA Clean Energy Center Rebate ($4,000); Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECS) quarterly payments – approx. $1600/year ($18,520 as of April 2023)

2020 – SONNEN gen III ECO 10 SMART ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM
-10 Kw energy storage system
– Gross price: $20,500
– Incentives and credits: Federal tax credit ($6150); Eversource Demand Response program payments ($1522)

2020 – ELECTRIC RANGE
– Replaced gas stove with Maytag electric range
– Gross Price: $626 + $400 plumber & electrician = $1026
– We bought a conventional electric range, not induction, because according to the owner’s manual, induction cooktops can interfere with a pacemaker. Perhaps it would have worked fine, but we did not want to take the risk.

2021 – HEAT PUMP
Carrier 3-Ton high efficiency (15 SEER) outdoor heat pump ($6660)
Ducted heat pump system
We retained our gas furnace for temperatures below 30F
– Incentives and credits: none (Mass Save incentives weren’t avail if the old furnace retained.)
– Heat pump reduced natural gas usage by at least 66%

2021 – HYUNDI KONA EV AND L2 HOME CHARGER
Kona gross purchase price: $47,955
EV Incentives and credits: Mass MOR EV rebate: $2500; Federal tax credit: $7500
Chargepoint Level 2 Charger: $743 + $1208 for installation: $1951 total
Incentives and credits: Federal tax credit: $585
