Initial installation of 16 panels in April 2016. An additional 10 panels and a Sonnen Eco 10 battery backup were added in September 2018.
When a 2016 Nissan Leaf was purchased in January 2016, the dealer included a 240V General Electric charger. When this charger arrived from Amazon, it was evident that something as amiss: the cover was not attached and there was no manual or installation instructions. Upon installation, the unit did not work. A call to the manufacturer support line identified the problem as a permanent, non-repairable failure. GE send a new unit directly and it has worked fine ever since.. Being mounted on the south exterior wall does mean that charging needs to happen when the outside temperature is less than 100° F – the charger refuses to ‘fry’ itself.
The Sense energy monitor includes the solar interface option. Addition of the Sonnen battery backup required relocation of the CT sensors to a different electrical breaker panel. Sense has yet to identify the Sonnen battery backup as a device – it may be mis-identifying components within the Sonnen cabinet as heaters or unknowns.
