Kenston Middle School. Their solar produces approximately 35,484 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. They shared that this is enough to power 3 conventional or 6 energy efficient Ohio homes for a year!
On their school district website, they showcase not only their solar panel statistics but also their solar thermal booster system and wind turbine! Their solar thermal booster system has a tank size of 119 gallons and has enough power to supply 1 conventional Ohio home with domestic water. Their wind turbine produces approximately 1.3 million Kilowatt Hours per year, or approximately 70% of the High School’s annual electric consumption. This is enough to power 121 conventional or 242 energy-efficient Ohio homes. Since their solar systems and wind turbines are right on their middle school campus, it provides a tangible and visible example of renewable energy production, which assists students in understanding the mechanics of solar and wind energy work.
Although they couldn’t share photos of students’ faces from Kenston Middle School they provided many amazing photos of their solar arrays. More photos can be found here.
